Helps to retract and prevent harm to the polyethylene implant from scratches, gouges, and bovie cautery during debridement and removal of other components
In primary TKA, it is used after implantation of components so the surgeon can debride the lateral gutter of synovium and for exposure for hemostasis laterally. Also extemely valuable for revisions in which a well fixed patella component is to be retained.
