Used to gauge the distance from the proximal end of the lesser trochanter to the level of the femoral neck osteotomy. The desired level of the femoral neck osteotomy is determined by preoperative planning. The exact level of the femoral osteotomy helps with leg length, either maintaining equal leg length or correcting leg length discrepancies.
